Cordiant tires are even more efficient and wear-resistant

Main / Useful information / Cordiant tires are even more efficient and wear-resistant

Fifteen years ago, the main advantage of car tires in the budget segment was the very fact of their availability, and the technical characteristics and functional indicators of tires were not particularly discussed. Today, even inexpensive models of tires have decent performance and are regularly subjected to serious modernization. Specialists of the brand ” Cordiant “created a new model of tires, called”Road Runner”.

The main advantages of the new product were innovative technologies during its creation, which allowed not only to improve the performance of the wheel’s coupling properties, but also significantly increase the tire’s wear resistance. To do this, first of all, the creators of the new product have radically changed the tread pattern. If the previous “Cordiant” model had an asymmetric tread pattern with four grooves running longitudinally, the “Road Runner” model received a V-shaped directional pattern, the number of longitudinal grooves was reduced to three, and the grooves themselves became noticeably wider, thereby allowing to displace 7% more fluid from under the wheel than the previous “Comfort”model. The effect of aquaplaning is designed to reduce the network of well-developed transverse grooves located on the edges of the tire.

The tread has a two-layer structure. The rubber on which the drawing is applied and which is directly responsible for the coupling characteristics is made of a special soft mixture with a high content of silica and highly dispersed tri-carbon used in the automotive industry. The inner layer of rubber, which does not come into direct contact with the road surface, has a more rigid structure. Its task is to protect the wheel from deformation caused by high loads and, thereby, increase the service life of the tire. All the tests that new tires are subjected to before launching them into mass production, the novelty passed very confidently, showing a decent result, comparable to samples of more famous and expensive tire brands. Even at high speeds, on a wet asphalt surface, under heavy rain, “Road Runner” clung to the asphalt until the last moment, keeping the car on the set trajectory. And if the car still left the trajectory, it happened predictably and very smoothly.

Unfortunately, the longitudinal grip of the new tires was not the highest. With active braking, the anti-lock system of the test cars was triggered much earlier than expected. Thus, it is worth working on the braking characteristics of the new product on a wet asphalt surface. However, there were no unpleasant surprises on the dry surface. Here, the area of the tire tread contact spot with the road surface came to the fore, and not the indicator of water removal from under the wheel.
